Dongyang Greenbio (DYGB), a Veolia’s organic waste recycling facility, has recently completed the construction of a new 3rd floor fermentation building and resumed normal operations from mid-July 2024.
Located in Bonghwa County, Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea DYGB has been operating with an increased capacity of 120 tons per day since the facility expansion in 2021. This upgrade allowed the facility to process both food waste and sewage sludge simultaneously, compared to the previous 60 tons per day. Following this, the construction of a new 3rd floor fermentation building, replacing the outdated previous one, has improved the facility’s operational efficiency from 73% to approximately 93% with normal operations in August.
DYGB processes inlet food waste and sewage sludge through fermentation and post-maturation, eventually exporting the processed products as compost. In addition, DYGB installed 425 kW solar panels on the facility’s roof in 2022, replacing approximately 29% of its energy consumption with local green energy.
On September 11, a ceremony was held to celebrate the completion of the new building and to wish for the safe operation of the facility. The event was attended by Veolia Korea CEO, executives, Bonghwa County officials, and major customers. The CEO Mr. Herve Peneau expressed gratitude to the on-site staff for their efforts in normalizing operations and to the partners who successfully completed the safe construction of the new building. Sustainable waste recycling and local green energy production are excellent examples of Veolia's commitment to local development and ecological transformation as a global leader.
