Veolia Korea is a leader in waste management, offering comprehensive solutions to transform waste into valuable resources, whether it's energy, materials, or heat. With global expertise and the use of advanced technologies, Veolia contributes to waste reduction while meeting the energy and industrial needs of its clients. This page details Veolia's key solutions in waste management, energy production, and resource recovery.
Why Choose Veolia?
Tailored and effective waste management solutions.
Cutting-edge resource recovery technologies.
Trusted expertise with a focus on sustainability.
To address the increasing need for renewable energy, Veolia is at the forefront of developing innovative solutions that transform waste into valuable energy resources. Through the combustion of non-recyclable waste, Veolia generates both electricity and heat, which power local industries and homes. This process not only conserves fossil fuels but also significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions and the volume of waste destined for landfills.
Veolia’s Waste-to-Energy facilities operate under stringent European regulatory standards, ensuring strict compliance with flue-gas emission thresholds and contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable environment.

Our Comprehensive Solutions
Waste-to-Energy
Veolia operates more than 90 waste-to-energy facilities worldwide, treating municipal solid waste while creating renewable energy. With extensive expertise, Veolia adapts existing technologies to different types of waste to optimally generate heat and electricity, considering the low heat value of municipal solid waste.
Heat Recovery
The energy generated by the combustion of non-recyclable waste produces electricity and heat, which can be used for local industry or domestic energy needs. Waste-to-Energy, therefore, helps conserve fossil fuels, limits greenhouse gas emissions, and reduces the volume of waste sent to landfills.
Biogas Generation
Veolia has developed advanced operational techniques and systems for biogas recovery, significantly enhancing the collection and utilization of biogas produced by waste fermentation. A key innovation is Methacontrol®, an automated management system for biogas collection networks that continuously optimizes network operations, leading to a substantial increase in biogas collection compared to manual methods.
Veolia has also developed anaerobic digestion systems specifically designed for different types of waste:
- Dry anaerobic digestion for municipal waste.
- Wet anaerobic digestion for waste from the agricultural and food processing industries.
Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) Recovery
Veolia plays a pivotal role in the development of Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF), also known as Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF). SRF is a type of dry, non-hazardous waste that can be used as fuel for co-incineration in facilities such as cement kilns. This process allows the recovery of a significant portion of municipal or non-hazardous industrial waste, catering to the growing demand for energy in various industries.
Sludge Treatment
Municipal sludge is a significant secondary pollutant during sewage treatment due to its high content of organic pollutants and hazardous components, including pathogens, heavy metals, and carcinogenic chemicals. Veolia employs advanced technologies to treat and convert this sludge into energy or other useful byproducts, thereby mitigating its environmental impact.
Resource Recovery
Veolia recovers and reprocesses waste to reintegrate valuable materials into industrial or agricultural production and to generate energy. Leveraging cutting-edge technologies, Veolia supports companies and public authorities in everything from waste sorting and recovery to the construction and operation of facilities. Our approach prioritizes sustainability, long-term economic viability, and the protection of both the environment and human health.
